Athletics that unify our community — four tournaments, four sports, one festival. Building leadership, teamwork, and healthy lifestyles across generations.
Sports tournaments at Sacramento Hmong New Year are intentionally designed as a cultural and community engagement.
Athletics have long been a unifying element within the Hmong community — creating spaces where youth, families, and community leaders gather beyond traditional ceremonies. By incorporating sports tournaments, the festival expands participation opportunities, attracts younger generations, and fosters leadership, teamwork, and healthy lifestyles.
Teams travel from across California and the western United States to compete. Whether it's a championship volleyball spike, a clutch soccer goal, or a perfectly placed cornhole bag, the tournaments are where our community comes together to cheer, compete, and connect.
The festival's most attended tournament. Pool play on Saturday, single-elimination bracket on Sunday. Teams come from across California to compete for the SHNY volleyball trophy.

Tournaments give younger generations a reason to attend, participate, and stay connected to cultural events through the language of competition.
Captains, coaches, and players develop leadership skills, learn to work together, and build the confidence that carries into school, work, and life.
Athletics promote physical wellness and a culture of active living — an important counterweight to a generation increasingly behind screens.
From senior golf to youth cornhole, our tournaments are intentionally inclusive — bringing every generation together on shared ground.
Tournaments are high-visibility brand opportunities — team sponsorships, court signage, and prize sponsorships across multi-day, family-friendly events.
