The Hmong Dance Competition is a highly anticipated event that showcases the rich cultural heritage and artistic talents of the Hmong community. Held annually at Cal Expo in Sacramento, this vibrant celebration attracts participants and spectators from across California and beyond.

Our Hmong Dance Competition stands as a staple of the Sacramento Hmong New Year, celebrating the artistry, heritage, and spirit of the Hmong people while inspiring future generations to carry forward these traditions.

PROGRAM DETAILS

The Hmong Dance Competition is a vibrant and dynamic two-round event held over the course of two days, specifically on Saturday and Sunday, as part of the larger celebration festivities.

Each participating group is required to prepare and deliver performances that adhere to strict timing guidelines, with a minimum duration of 3 minutes and a maximum of 6 minutes per routine. This time frame ensures that each team has ample opportunity to display their creativity, precision, and storytelling abilities while maintaining the audience’s engagement. The two-round format allows for an initial round of performances, followed by a final round where the top teams compete for accolades, recognition, and potential awards.

JUNIOR DIVISIONVARSITY DIVISION

The competition is open to various age groups, including children, teens, and adults. Categories include traditional dances that celebrate Hmong history and modern interpretations that highlight contemporary influences. Teams often dedicate months to rehearsals, perfecting their routines and costumes to ensure an impressive performance.
